James Robert Dampier
(June 2, 1926 - February 8, 2010)

James Robert Dampier, age 83, of La Farge, died on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Bethel Home in Viroqua. He was born June 2, 1926 in Janesville, the son of James R. and Lola (Page) Dampier. James proudly served his country in the Navy from 1942 until 1946. Following his discharge, James worked for G.M.A.D. in Janesville. He was united in marriage with Jean in 1947, and they divorced in 1970. He later married Bertha, and she died in 1973. On December 30, 1975, James and Wilma Borrison were married. Following his retirement, they retired to La Farge in 1978. He joined the La Farge Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and trained toward becoming a member of the La Farge Police Department. He and Wilma owned and operated the J&W Gun Shop from their home, while he also found time to drive the Vernon County Mini Bus. James loved the La Farge area and had many friends. He transferred his membership to the Jones Lawrence VFW Post 9075 when he moved to La Farge, and also was a member of the Ontario American Legion. He loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends. In 1985, James suffered a severe stroke and became disabled. Later he endured lung surgery and became dependent on oxygen, and had to give up many of the things he loved so much.
